Author Portraits

I wanted to portray something of the authors personality through the style I chose to work with.

For example, Kurt Vonnegut is heavily associated with being a colourful, whimsical fellow; many of his books have pop-art or postmodern inspired covers which is what inspired my retro comic depiction of him.

Philip K. Dick, on the other hand, is known for his cynical (if worryingly prophetic) view of the future (our present, in some cases). There is an intense look to him in my portrait that hopefully evokes some of this cynicism, as though he is worried about something he’s witnessing behind the viewers lens.

My Fyodor Dostoevsky portrait is based on the masterfully created painting by Vasily Perov. I admired this painting and was initially just drawing it for fun, but after rendering it fully I decided it would be perfect for A Couple of Dorks. Afterwards, I added some of Fyodor’s own drawings onto the image, taken from one of his handwritten manuscripts (I forget which book - perhaps Brothers Karamazov?)
